Mem Reduct Portable memory manager for Windows
As the name states, this is a portable software, which means, when it is downloaded to the computer, it doesn’t require an installation. Just open the file and get down to using it. The ZIP package contains both a 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the program. To get the best performance from this software, you’ll need to launch it using administration rights. The software always tends to launch into the System Tray instead of opening a Windows like most programs. We found this a bit annoying, but not a dealbreaker. To get a quick overview of the computer’s physical memory, just hover the cursor over the icon in the System Tray. By double-clicking the icon, a window will appear with more details. The details here are grouped into several categories, and each category gives us usage percentage, freely available memory, and the total amount overall. It’s possible to clean memory from a single click of a button. The button in question is situated in the lower part of the software. The ‘cleaning’ process will begin immediately, and we have to say, it doesn’t take long for it to get the job done. The program uses undocumented internal system Native API to clear system cache viz. system working set, working set, standby page lists, and the modified page lists.
After the ‘cleanup’ process has ended, a window will appear detailing the amount of memory recovered. If you’re using Windows 10, the pop-up should appear from the right-side of the display. Read: Do Memory Optimizers really work? In terms of playing around with the settings, click on File, then Settings. Here you can change the appearance, edit how memory is cleaned, and decide if you want Mem Reduct to load on system start. There’s nothing advanced here, just the basic stuff and that’s great because a program such as this does not need advanced features. While Windows memory management is best left to the operating system, Mem Reduct Portable is a good tool for managing your computer’s memory – provided you know what you are doing. The ‘memory cleanup’ part of any memory optimizer does not really impress us, but if you are looking to monitor and manage your Windows memory, this tool could be of use. You can download Mem Reduct Portable from Softpedia.
